Job Description:

The Navis™ SPARCS N4 terminal operating system (TOS) combines live production experience at more than 170 marine terminals in 50 countries with state-of-the-art software design. We are building the next generation of this system using the latest Java and open source software technology.

Responsibilities:

* The software engineer contributes to the development of SPARCS N4
* Work with developers located in our Oakland and India offices
* Participate in design and code reviews with peers
* Review documentation written by our technical documentation group
* Fix issues that may arise in production environments

Required Qualifications:

* Strong knowledge of and experience (3-7 years) with enterprise application architectures and design patterns
o 3-5 years of experience developing J2EE applications including experience in the use of:
o O/R mapping tools such as Hibernate
o Open source frameworks such as Spring and Mule
o Configuration control (CVS) and build management (ant)
o IDEs such as IntelliJ or Eclipse
o Unit tests and continuous integration techniques including the use of JUnit for developing automated unit tests
* Experience with one or more of the following Application Servers: Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic
* Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS such as MySql, Sql-Server and Oracle)
* Experience with UI technologies such as Java Swing or ULC is a plus
* Experience working with an offshore team of developers is a plus
* Ability to work by objectives and excellent communication skills
* Effective management of time and ability to accurately estimate time required for development/debugging tasks
* Qualified candidates need to be flexible and willing to work in a fast-paced environment with short release cycles
* Some travel may be required
* BE/ BTech/ MCA/ MSc or equivalent

Desired Experience:

Working knowledge of Jasper Reports, Hibernate, and Spring Framework Knowledge of Swing or ULC Familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
