Job Description

· Responsible for developing system test strategies, test plans, and test execution of Integrated Network Management products encompassing the broad spectrum of CIENA's networking products.

· Develop and execute network management level test plans fully exercising the following areas: SONET/SDH networks deployment, TMF 814 interface compliance, Ethernet and packet service provisioning, optical transport, performance monitoring, fault/alarm management, and stress loading.

· Strong knowledge of UNIX, SONET/SDH, Ethernet/GbE and storage services, optical network and protection switching technologies.

· Review product requirements, Architecture and designs and provide feedback to development teams.

· Team with development organizations in order to ensure customer quality in the Network Management products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Prior SVT experience in EMS/NMS testing.

· Good understanding of platform, performance, scalability testing requirements for EMS/NMS.

· Develop test plans based on System Requirements and high level development documents.

· Investigate product defects and highlight critical issues that can have potential customer impact.

· Develop automated instrumentation test software and testing procedures to systems level testing of new design and modified products.

· Develop and execute network management level test plans fully exercising the following areas: SONET/SDH interface compliance, Ethernet routing performance, optical transport, performance management, fault management, network traffic and stress loading

· Consults with hardware and software engineering staff to identify and document functional interfaces and requirements to perform operational and performance testing at the module and overall system levels.

· Confers with hardware and software engineering personnel to resolve problems related to specifications and associated test plans/procedures.

· Work with customer certification test group on all levels of testing: component level testing, module level testing, system level testing, network level testing.

· Analyze test results and prepare test reports.

SKILLS

· Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills associated with Client/Server applications

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

· Strong Knowledge of Java, CORBA, TCL/TK/Expect, Oracle

· Strong Knowledge of UNIX and system admin functions required

· Strong Knowledge of Optical equipment with DWDM, OTN, SONET, Ethernet and Fiber Channel technologies

· Strong Test automation experience.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

· BSCS/EE , prefer Masters

· 4yrs+ prior test experience.

· 2 yrs+ Network Management testing

· 3 yrs+ experience in the Telecommunication

· 1 yr+ leading a team on a project
